German Jewish Cultural Heritage

German Jewish Cultural Heritage (GJCH) is an interdisciplinary scientific project, which is dedicated to the recognition, examination and preservation of the cultural heritage of German Jewry in German speaking countries as well as in the countries of emigration. Among „cultural heritage“, we comprehend the material heritage as well as the spiritual one, which was brought in the new homeland by the German-speaking Jews. The primary focus of the project isn’t only on the period of Hitler’s seizure of power; the 19th century is considered as well.

A website and a datbase are supposed to provide the foundation for a networked collaboration on a long-term basis between as many international institutions as possible. The projects aim is to save documents from decay and to make immediate global access to historically valuable primary sources possible.
